Other Houshold Pets

Size

  1. Is it true that they really stay small as 20 pounds or so?

We have Placed Piglets with new families and gone to vist only to find our projected size was Larger that the piglet actually grew to be. At that piont the piglet was 1 and 1/2 years of age and only 12 pounds.

According to Wikipedia .....The world's smallest pig is believed to be the 28 inches (71 cm) long wild pygmy hog, an endangered species which lives in wildlife sanctuaries in Assam, India

Country of Origin: The Pug is also known as the ‘Carlin’, ‘Mops’ (the nameof Marie Antoinette’s Pug), or ‘Chinese Pug’. ‘Pug’ derives either from theLatin for ‘fist’ (referring to the Pug face’s resemblance to a clenched fist)or the Old English ‘Pugg’ for ‘playful little monkey’ (deriving from ‘Puck’, asin Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’). Unlike other toy breeds, the Pug descends from mastiffs. It was originally bred as an Emperor’s pet in China during the Shangdynasty (1766-1122 B.C.) and became a popular pet for Tibetan monks.

Size: The Pug has a shoulder heightof 35 cm (14 in) and weighs about 7 kg (15 lbs). It has a large, spherical head with big eyes, small ‘rose’ (folded toward the muzzle) or ‘button’ (folded at ninety degrees)ears, slight underbite, deeply wrinkled forehead, and a distinctly short, square muzzle. Pugs have a compact, muscular body with arched neck, deep chest, and tail curled tightly over the back.

Size: The Mastiff has a shoulderheight of 70-76 cm (27-30 in) and weighs 68-91 kg (150-200 lbs). It is thelargest breed by weight. In 1989, a English Mastiff named ‘Zorba’ set the Guinness World Record forheaviest dog at 143 kg (315 lbs), measuring over 8 feet from the tip of thenose to the tip of the tail. Mastiffs have a very large head with a short, widemuzzle, and ‘V’-shaped ears. They have a flat back, high-set, low hanging tail, and large, round feet.

Other Houshold Pets

  1. Do pigs get along with other houshold pets?

Yes, though over the years there have been we have seen and heard of various pet friendships, pigs seem to prefer gental larger breed dogs.

Allergies

  1. We have problems with allergies in our family. Do pet pigs have fur or dander?

Actually Pigs are one of your best options when allergies are a concern.

Pigs are HypoAllergenic. They have hair " But" they do not shed.

Pigs skin is some what sensitive to dry weather. A little lotion may be needed occationally.

Potty Training

  1. We would love to have a piglet in the house with us? Where do they use the restroom?

Pigs are quite particular about that subject and even smarter about it. Pigs will easily self train in a low lipped litter box just like a cat. On the other hand pigs are happy to use a doggie door just like a dog.

My experience with our pig “Meatball” and dealing with Trace has been beyond positive. They are completely professional and are ALWAYS responsive to my calls and questions. Meatball is fantastic!!! Sleeps in bed with us every night, was litter box trained in 4 days, was NO problem to train him to do his business outside when he was old enough, is supper intelligent, and loves people (especially children) and dogs. I did a tremendous amount of homework and called on numerous references before finally choosing Trace and TLC. If you choose to adopt a piglet from TLC you’re making the right choice. I was pleasantly surprised at their professionalism and how much they care. There was NEVER a time that Trace did not immediately respond to me.

Good luck and feel free to contact me.

Regards,

Hortence AKA Ellie is amazing! From the moment I picked her up at the airport, we connected. I was shocked at how tiny she was and hearing her little grunts, I couldn't wait to get her out of her carrier! As soon as we got in the car, she drank water and

nibbled on some of her pellets. She sat calmly on my lap the whole ride home. Just as predicted by Trace, on her first night home she slept in her litter box! I had a little trouble getting her to go potty in the correct spot for her first day or two at home, but once I took Trace's advice by using wood pellets as her litter instead of ripped up newspaper, there was immediate success! She knows exactly where to potty and is very proud of herself every time I praise her for a great job! Ellie is a doll. She loves getting her belly scratched, napping on my lap, and putting her little snout against my nose. My vet says she is the tiniest and best looking mini pig he's ever seen. She was only 4.2 lbs at our first visit! Ellie is adapting wonderfully into my home and bonding with myself and my two dogs. She is worth every second of the wait and I fall more and more in love every single day.

OCTOBER 2012 TESTIMONIAL:

I've been giving you a glowing reference.

Here is a testimonial of my experience

I purchased my TLC piglet about a month ago and it has been an incredible experience so far. It should be noted that TLC Piglets. After losing my Italian Greyhound, Penny, after fourteen years, I was not ready to move into my own place without a special companion. I knew I could never replace her with another dog and family cat allergies were also an issue. Then I saw a mini pig on television and started my research. After speaking to multiple sellers, I decided that I wanted to purchase my piglet from TLC Piglets. Trace prepared me completely before bringing home my piglet, which I know started him and I out on the right foot... Or in his case, hoof.

The woman at the airport said that he was 'as quiet as a church mouse' when he got off the airplane. He did a few small oinks on the way home. At this point, I have learned to identify what he wants by the type of noises he makes!

Edgar (previously known as Becker) is now litter box trained, walks on a harness and leash, and goes to obedience training. He sits on command after just three days and I use a 'clicker' with training. My plan for him is to become a therapy animal so he already very well socialized with children and adults. He plays with my parents dogs and chases them around the yard.

Since his arrival he has seen all of the weather New England has to offer. As long as he has on his sweater he does not seem to mind!

Edgar's first vet check up went smoothly and agreed that I got very lucky to have purchased him from a responsible breeder.
